We wanted to do more than just celebrate the achievements of our 2024 Women in Green Business Award winners—we wanted to learn from them, too. So, we reached out and asked them to reflect on their journey: what inspired them to enter, what the experience meant to them, and most importantly, what advice they’d give to anyone considering applying this year.
Whether you're a seasoned sustainability leader or just starting to carve out your path in the green economy, their advice is a must-read. It might just be the nudge you need to throw your hat in the ring this year.
How did you approach your award entry?

I began by listing my key achievements and data points that I wanted to highlight. Then, I crafted a compelling narrative that felt authentic and would resonate with the judges on a human level. Finally, I refined and trimmed my answers to stay within the word limit.
I highlighted practical work I had done with clear examples over the past year. I signposted evidence that had been widely published and also key initiatives internal to the organisation. I also brought to life the intention and drivers behind my passion for D&I and sustainability and how it has impacted the work I do and how I show up in all facets of my life.

What advice would you give to those considering entering the 2025 awards?

I would strongly recommend entering the 2025 Women In Green Business awards. It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise your own progression and achievements, whilst connecting and learning from other women in this space. Having a community of women who can act as both peers and mentors is essential during your career and Women In Green Business offers an opportunity to find just that. I entered without believing I would win the award – so I would strongly encourage anyone else to take the chance!
My advice would be to enter with confidence and highlight the unique aspects of your approach. The judges are looking for innovation, leadership, and a strong commitment to sustainability, so make sure your submission tells a compelling story about the work you’re doing and its broader impact. It’s always good to share how you’ve overcome challenges or found creative solutions. The awards celebrate progress and the positive differences being made, so let that shine through in your entry.
